A Season like no other with Bognor Regis Town - 2020/21

A season on the road with the Green Army of West Sussex.

Friendly Fire

21/08/20 - Horndean 0 v 3 BRTFC

After nearly six months without kicking a ball in anger due to the cancellation of the 2019/20 season due to the dreadful Covid 19 virus, the Rocks take to the pitch for their second pre-season friendly but crucially their first with fans back inside the stadium. Micky Birmingham, an ex legendary player, provided the opposition at Five Heads Park.

26/08/20 - East Preston 0 v 6 BRTFC

The Rocks made light work of local neighbours East Preston, who play their football in the Southern Combination Premier League which is two levels below where Bognor are at in the pyramid for the 2020/21 season. Terry Dodd, another ex legendary player, was in the dugout for the home side at the time before stepping down recently.

04/09/20 - Chichester City 2 v 4 BRTFC

On a barmy warm summer Friday evening the Green Army make the short trip to another local Sussex rival, Chichester City of the Isthmian South East Division. This time there is only a one league gap between the clubs and it proves to be a tough contest which Bognor eventually come out on top of in a game of six goals. It’s also a hat-trick of games against an ex players as Darin Kilpartrick is now involved with the coaching set up at Chic City.

Season Beginnings - September & October

The sun shines brightly as Bishop’s Storford and Bognor battle it out on match-day one.

19/09/20 - Bishop’s Stortford 2 v 2 BRTFC - Isthmian PL

The Isthmian Premier League season finally gets under way a month later than normal, but under the circumstances everyone was glad just to have football and some form of normality back in their lives. Bognor raced in a 2-0 lead in Hertfordshire thanks to a quality strike from Tommy Leigh in the first half, and they then doubled that lead after the break thanks to a debut goal for Jordy Mongoy. Unfortunately a poor end to the game saw the Rocks concede two penalties in the last few minutes of the match and in the madness of it all throw away two precious points. Welcome back football you have been missedl!

It’s a sobering day on the outskirts of the capital as the Rocks crash to a heavy FA Cup defeat.

03/10/20 - Hayes & Yeading 5 v 0 BRTFC - FA Cup 2nd QR

After knocking out South Park of the Isthmian League South Central Division on penalties in the previous round(One level below Bognor), the FA Cup draw took the Rocks to West London and a tie against Southern League Premier South opposition in Hayes and Yeading. After a goalless first half, a half in which Bognor looked the most likely to score, the second half turned into a complete disaster as Hayes scored five goals in a crazy twenty-five minute spell to crush Bognor's dream of a long FA Cup run. An afternoon to forget at the Sky Ex Stadium !

From the Dugout - Jack Pearce & Robbie Blake

”I’ve have got to say that if you were Bishop’s Stortford, and had the possession and chances they had, you’d expect to win the game. But we were 2-0 up with 11 minutes to go and if you want to do anything in this league you can’t give away goals like we did there.”

Jack Pearce - Manager

”I just thought we were very poor at Cheshunt and after the game I was feeling flat. During the game itself we didn’t really create one chance which is a worry.”

“We’ve got a team that likes to play at home where the pitch is great and the facilities are great but home wins alone won’t get a football club success.”

”There was just too many players whose body language looked wrong. Every player at this football club needs to be giving 110 per cent effort if we’re to move up the table.”

Robbie Blake

” We mustn’t and can’t give teams easy chances. But we showed determination and bravery to come back at South Park. I thought we deserved to get through. I was always confident for the shootout. Great credit to the lads.”

Robbie Blake - Head Coach

”I thought that at Cheshunt we started brightly but totally lost our way. If one team deserved to win it, that was Cheshunt and not us. Our forward play was non-existent in the game. “ - Jack Pearce
